A Nigerian lady, Omolola Bowoto, studying in the UK, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to prevent her withdrawal from the University of Essex, where she is pursuing a Master's degree, due to outstanding tuition fees. In a TikTok video, Omolola, who is five months away from graduating, expressed her risk of losing her academic progress if her admission is revoked.

The primary cause of her financial struggles, as stated on her GoFundMe page titled ‘Help Lola Graduate this Year,’ is attributed to the devaluation of the Nigerian Naira and family-related challenges.

“…Due to the devaluation of naira and family financial challenge it has limited me having enough to fund my tuition and is disheartening to find myself in this position but I am still strong-willed to complete my studies.

“I humbly ask for your support in any way you can provide – whether it’s a financial contribution, sharing this campaign with your network, or offering words of encouragement. Every bit makes a significant difference, and I am grateful for any assistance you can offer,” she wrote.

Omolola has already managed to raise £5,300 (approximately N6 million) on her own but revealed that an additional £15,400 (N17.6 million) is urgently required to settle the remaining outstanding tuition fees.

The GoFundMe campaign, which goes by the hashtag #HelpLolaGraduateThisYear, has garnered support from 223 donors, contributing a total of £4,434 (over N5 million) at the time of reporting.
