The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly chosen Victor Osimhen for a random drug test in light of his exceptional performance against Cameroon in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire. The Super Eagle of Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the Round of 16 match on Saturday, January 27, with Osimhen playing a pivotal role in the team's success.

According to a report from Vanguard, Osimhen's remarkable display and energetic speed have caught the attention of CAF, leading to his selection for a random drug test. Normally, players are chosen by drawing lots from the entire matchday squad. However, players can also be randomly selected if any unusual behavior is observed.

Reporting on the situation, DW Africa stated, “Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen had to undergo a random drug test after his tireless performance against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions. The Super Eagles forward was instrumental in both goals that gave Nigeria a much-needed win to advance to the quarter-finals.

“His tireless display has attracted the attention of Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials. He was also tested when Nigeria played Ivory Coast. Both tests turned out negative. CAF officials can randomly select a player for testing if they notice any unusual behavior. The current CAF Player of the Year is expected to lead the line for the three-time champions when they face Angola in the quarter-finals this week.”
