China has officially canceled the anticipated friendly match between Argentina and Nigeria due to the fallout from Lionel Messi’s recent absence during a match in Hong Kong.

Messi, though present, did not play in Inter Miami’s preseason victory over a Hong Kong XI, leading to criticism from fans who were eager to see him on the field.

The government of Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, expressed disappointment over Messi’s absence, despite his explanation citing a minor injury.

This dissatisfaction among fans during the match resulted in chants calling for Messi to play.
