Famed Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti, candidly discusses the challenges many women encounter in their marriages, expressing that a considerable number contemplate divorce.
In a recent interview, the actress delves into the difficulties arising from cultural disparities in marriages, asserting that this becomes particularly challenging for most couples at some point.
Supporting her perspective, Jaiye Kuti highlights how couples, post-marriage, come to understand each other on a deeper level compared to the dating stage, which can pose significant challenges for women.
Using her own experiences as an example, Jaiye reveals attempting to exit her marriage three times but finding herself entangled in it.
She further observes that men, driven by an egocentric desire to cheat, make the prospect of leaving marriages seemingly easier for them.
In her words:
“If you ask a hundred women, 85% want to exit their marriage. I even tried to leave like thrice. The issue is when you marry someone from a different tradition and when a man wants to get married, he would treat and pamper a woman well, but the second marriage and children are involved, everyone will start to show their true colors. Also, men can be egocentric in nature; and also can’t be stopped from cheating.”
