The Labour Party, LP, has strongly urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to annul the re-run election conducted in certain parts of Enugu State due to alleged irregularities.

Specifically, the party has labeled the House of Representatives re-run election in Igbo-Eze/Udenu federal constituency, Enugu State, as a complete sham and is calling for an unequivocal cancellation of the entire exercise.

Labour Party calls on INEC to cancel Enugu election re-run Hon. Denis Agbo

The national secretary of the party, Umar Farouk, who led its monitoring team to polling stations involved in the by-elections on Saturday, addressed journalists, asserting that due process was not followed.

Farouk highlighted that accreditation was compromised, result sheets were hijacked, and BVAS machines were disregarded, all while voters were allegedly prevented from exercising their right to vote.

During the press conference, the LP national secretary, accompanied by the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Dennis Agbo, emphatically called on INEC to promptly nullify elections in areas where these reported irregularities have taken place.

In his remarks, Dennis Agbo also insisted on the immediate and complete cancellation of the supplementary election. He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of utilizing the local government vigilante to intimidate LP supporters.

Agbo claimed that LP members were forcibly chased away from polling booths by the local vigilantes and further alleged that INEC officials took instructions from PDP officials, allowing voting to occur in private houses.
