Police authorities have reportedly taken into custody Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor, identified as the son of veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, and a woman named Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu. The duo is facing allegations of stealing N55 million from donations meant for Mr. Ibu's medical expenses.

The arrest was made in Ikoyi, Lagos State, as disclosed by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) in a communiqué issued on Thursday, January 25, 2024. According to FCID spokesperson ASP Mayegun Aminat, the accused individuals were suspected of defrauding Mr. Ibu while he was on a sickbed.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Ibu initiated a public fundraising campaign to cover his medical bills, seeking support from fans, prominent figures in the entertainment industry, and the public. The account dedicated to this cause was allegedly compromised when Onyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, both accused of conspiring to defraud Mr. Ibu, gained unauthorized access to the financial details.

Further details indicated that Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor, Mr. Ibu's wife, initially managed the funds for family support and Mr. Ibu's medical expenses. The accused individuals reportedly stole Mrs. Stella Maris Chinyere Okafor’s phone, gaining illicit access to Mr. Ibu’s financial information.
