The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) officially confirms that major telecom operators MTN and Globacom have successfully reached an agreement to address the interconnect debt issue between them.

This significant development was disclosed in a statement issued this morning by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the commission. The statement highlighted the NCC's role in facilitating the resolution of this matter that has implications for both telecom companies and consumers.

NCC confirms agreement between Glo and MTN on interconnect fees Dr. Aminu Maida, Vice-Chairman, NCC.

According to NCC, "In granting the approval, the Commission was deeply conscious of the potential impacts of the decision on consumers and therefore continued to engage both parties to facilitate a resolution which prioritizes and protects consumer interest and the seamless operation of the national telecoms network," demonstrating the regulatory body's commitment to consumer welfare and network efficiency.

As a result of this resolution, Glo subscribers can now freely make calls to MTN, and MTN subscribers will experience no hindrance when calling Glo network. This positive outcome comes after last week's announcement by the telecommunications industry regulator, NCC, which initially raised concerns about Glo owing MTN interconnect fees. Subsequent industry sources, however, confirmed that Glo had indeed settled the debt in question.
