The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured their spot in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following a thrilling encounter with South Africa.

Jose Peseiro’s squad faced a dramatic finish as Bafana Bafana managed a last-minute equalizer, nullifying Victor Osimhen’s goal.

The match kicked off with both teams displaying high energy, vying for an early advantage, yet the first half concluded without a breakthrough.

Despite South Africa dominating possession early in the second half and testing Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, it was the Super Eagles who took the lead in the 67th minute with a penalty expertly converted by William Troost-Ekong.

Although Troost-Ekong claimed the spotlight for scoring, credit goes to Napoli star Osimhen, who drew the penalty after a rough tackle in South Africa’s box.

With just five minutes remaining, Osimhen received an accurate cross from Ola Aina, allowing him to easily tap in, seemingly securing Nigeria’s second goal. However, a VAR check nullified the goal, citing infractions in the build-up, including a rough tackle on a South Africa player inside Nwabali’s box.

In a matter of minutes, Nigeria's lead shifted from 2-0 to 1-1 as a penalty was awarded, and Teboho Mokoena calmly slotted the ball home from the spot in the 90th minute, leveling the score for Hugo Broos.

The game extended into extra time, yet neither team could find the deciding goal. After 30 minutes of extra play, a penalty shootout ensued, where Nigeria emerged victorious, beating South Africa 4-2.
