A Nigerian lady was apprehended by customs officials at the Indian Airport (Delhi International Airport) on Tuesday, February 1, 2024, on charges of allegedly smuggling cocaine worth ₹82 crore (N75 million) into the country.
The arrest occurred following the woman's arrival from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
As per an official statement released on Thursday, February 1, 2024, the suspect underwent interception and a meticulous baggage search.
Upon examination, authorities discovered a concealed substance inside two blue-colored trolley bags carried by the passenger.
Further inspection revealed a total of 5.8 kg of a white powdery substance suspected to be narcotics.
The statement highlighted that after subjecting the substance to a diagnostic test, it prima facie appeared to contain a commercial quantity of cocaine.
The international value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be ₹82.446 crore.
In response to the discovery, customs officials promptly arrested the passenger, and the confiscated narcotics were seized.
