Yesterday, six individuals found themselves facing charges in an Igbosere Chiefs Magistrate’s Court for their involvement in the piracy of Toyin Abraham's movie Malaika. Police attorneys from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos, namely Kehinde Oseni, Adekunle Segun, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni S. Akano, Mrs. Agboola Motunrayo, and Mrs. Adebiyi Suliat, presented the accused before Chief Magistrate E. Ogunkanmi.

The charges brought against them included stealing intellectual property, conspiracy, and attempting to influence the course of justice, as explained by Morufu Animashaun, the prosecutor. He detailed that the alleged illegal conduct took place in January at Apapa.

According to Animashaun, the defendants violated sections 411, 972, 415, and 87 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and these offenses were punishable under the said laws. All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Upon entering their not guilty plea, Animashaun requested the court to remand them in the Correctional Center until the resolution of the charges. However, Ganiyu Oyarevuegbe, their attorney, orally sought their bail on the most permissive terms.
