Nigeria's Super Eagles experienced a 2-0 defeat against Guinea in a preparatory friendly match leading up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The three-time African champions engaged in the friendly encounter at the Bani Yas Stadium in Abu Dhabi, aiming to fine-tune their squad for the imminent tournament.

The match took an early turn against Nigeria as Guinea secured a lead in the 14th minute, putting Nigeria on the defensive. Despite having opportunities to level the score, including a penalty awarded to Sadiq Umar in the 19th minute, Nigeria's hopes were dashed as the Guinean goalkeeper denied Moses Simon from the spot, maintaining Guinea’s lead.

In the second half, Nigeria faced challenges in finding their rhythm, conceding a second goal in the 64th minute. In an attempt to reverse the situation, coach Jose Peseiro made several late changes. In the 73rd minute, Omeruo, Onyedika, and Awaziem made way for Bassey, Iwobi, and Onyeka respectively.

Ten minutes later, Aribo, Musa, and Lookman entered the game, replacing Alhassan, Chukwueze, and Simon, but it proved too late for any significant turnaround as Guinea successfully maintained a clean sheet.
