Mayorkun, the renowned Nigerian artist, recently opened up about his past sentiments towards his mother's fame in the movie industry. In a candid conversation with Taymesan over the weekend, the singer explained that he had deliberately kept his mother's identity, Toyin Adewale, a secret for a considerable period due to his aversion to her widespread recognition.

The singer disclosed that he harbored a dislike for his mother's fame, expressing that he wanted to avoid receiving preferential treatment anywhere because of his association with a well-known actress. In a widely circulated video on the internet, Mayorkun revealed that during his school days, he never disclosed to his fellow students that his mother was the acclaimed movie star, Toyin Adewale.

Mayorkun asserted that he and his brother sought freedom, detesting their mother's popularity as it brought along insincere attention. Reflecting on his upbringing, Mayorkun stated, “Growing up, my brother and I didn’t like the fact that our mom was a popular actress because we wanted freedom, but with her fame came fake attention and all.

“I hated being treated differently, not because you like me but because I am Toyin Adewale’s son.

“Even in my university, people didn’t know she was my mother for four years. I was intentional about this.

“My mum brought food to me at school once, and a girl saw her. I quickly ran to her to get what she came with just so no one else saw her.”

This revelation provides a glimpse into Mayorkun's desire for a sense of normalcy and independence, transcending the shadow of his mother's celebrity status.
