Nigerian singer-songwriter FOLA has put his sophomore album, 9, at No. 2 on the Spotify Top Albums Debut Global chart, a result reported by Tooxclusive on October 14, 2026. The album came out on October 9, 2026, five days earlier, and it also took the No. 1 spot on Apple Music Nigeria. The global debut is the clearest sign yet of how far his music is travelling beyond the Nigerian market.
The Tooxclusive album page lists the genre as Afrobeats and describes FOLA as known for soulful vocals, heartfelt songwriting and a blend of Afrobeats and R&B influences. The title is a football reference, according to NotJustOk: the number nine is the striker, the player expected to finish chances. FOLA has said he sees himself in that role, as the artist people turn to when they need a hit. Beyond that, I am leaving lyrical themes and song-level mood out, since I have only the album’s framing to go on.
On the credits, 9 is a 14-track project released through Dangbana Republik Records and EMPIRE. The guest list includes Davido on “2am in toronto,” BNXN on “my type,” Darkoo on “hold u down” and Ayra Starr on the single “Treat U Right.” His label boss Bella Shmurda and rapper Zlatan join him on “it’s over,” which closes the album and was released on September 10 with an official video. The other singles were “attention!” and “fine ting (fine $hit).” I could not confirm producer credits, so I have left them out.
Since “Ginger Me,” his debut single of March 24, 2022, FOLA has built his catalogue step by step. The what a feeling EP followed in 2024 after he signed to Dangbana Republik. His debut album, Catharsis, arrived in September 2025, crossed 100 million streams and spent weeks at No. 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 Albums chart. In January 2026, he and Shoday reached No. 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 with “Paparazzi,” their first chart-topper. Against that run, the Spotify global debut of 9 reads as the next step up.
9 is from Nigeria, released through Dangbana Republik Records and EMPIRE, and available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify. Press play on the album, then tell us in the comments which of the guest collaborations you would put first.
