Asake

When Asake dropped Mr. Money With The Vibe in 2022, it didn't just debut, it detonated. The relentlessly catchy album shattered streaming records for African projects and lit up charts worldwide, feeling less like a breakout and more like a coronation. Suddenly, Nigerian street pop had its global ambassador.

Born in Lagos in 1995, Asake doesn't polish the rough edges of the genre, he powers them up. He takes the polyrhythms, harmonies, and raw energy of street pop and pushes it forward, digging back into its roots in Fuji music to give it new weight. The result is music that feels instantly viral the moment it hits upload.

He proved it wasn't luck with 2023's Work Of Art. Stacked with uplifting, feel-good anthems, the album raised the bar for next-gen Afropop its forward-thinking production perfectly balanced against sticky percussion and West African melodies. It's a formula built to export Lagos to the world.

Maybe it really is destiny.
